I have a tough time separating the original Matrix movie from the abominations that followed it. But I keep thinking back to the period between when the original was released and before the 2nd one came out, when I wasn't bitter toward the whole franchise.
So, despite the terrible sequels, I'm giving the original an 8 as a standalone movie.

I don't understand why everybody hated the sequals so much. They are a continuation of the first. They take you further down the \"rabbit hole\", and show you exactly what the matrix is, and how it is all encompassing. To stop with the first one, would not have told the entire story.
